EXCLUSIVE: Italian authorities have enlisted the help of Catholic priests in a bid to break the psychological ties that help pimps exploit vulnerable Nigerian women, trafficked to Europe for sex work (main and top left).
There are estimated to be 25,000 Nigerian girls working as prostitutes in Italy and the numbers rose 300 per cent in 2014, experts say. One girl told Italian aid workers how a witchdoctor (one in Nigeria pictured bottom right) made her undress, before her pubic hair and toenails were cut, and then forced to swear over the blood of a chicken that she would never betray her benefactor.
