Firefighter calls in fake fire so he could respond to the scene and earn $500

A firefighter was arrested on a charge of inducing panic after allegedly reporting a non-existing fire so he could be sent to the scene and earn money, police in Ohio said.

Lorain police said that they have arrested 27-year-old Dean Evans, after being accused of reporting the false fire so he could go to the scene and earn a salary.

However, his plan didn’t work out as a different fire department was sent to the scene.

Evans was charged with inducing panic and making false alarms after police traced the call and found the number on Evans’ job application.

Evans would have earned $500 if he responded to the scene. Evans pleaded not guilty to the charges on Wednesday. Evans told investigators that he had fallen on hard times and needed the extra income.
