Man stabbed 9-year-old boy and punches his lawyer’s face in court after being found not guilty

A mentally disturbed man who killed a young boy in New York, punched his lawyer in the face after a jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity.

31-year-old Alejandro Morales of Manhattan, stabbed the 9-year-old boy in his mother’s home.
Minutes after the jury found him not guilty of murder, he punched his lawyer’s face. It took more than twenty court officers to subdue Morales.

During the struggle, he slammed into the prosecutor's table and landed in the jury box. His lawyer said that his client became violent after being told he would not go home.

Morales has been repeatedly diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He admitted to police that he had killed Anthony Maldonado.

Maldonado was the nephew of his mother’s boyfriend. Morales fled the apartment, hid the knife in a trash compactor and initially lied to police about the crime.

After two days of deliberations, a jury found that the evidence showed Morales had not committed murder because he only intended to injure the child.

Morales will be committed to a mental hospital.
